Neuro-Linguistic Programming: A Tool for Life

March 1st, 2010

Today’s Prescription for Wellness:

Examine Your Pre-Assumptions.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a tool for change and empowerment that was created through the study of the behavior of geniuses by a team of Experts in the field of linguistics, mathematics, psychology, and sociology.  NLP uses a combination of using imagery and movement ensuring optimal neuro (brain) processing, words and symbols (language), and systematic approaches to make sure the new behavior is ingrained (or programmed) into a new pattern of thinking and behaving. The brain manages the functioning of the human body, and language is in charge of how we interact with other people and how we qualify and manage our own behavior.  Programming deals with the combination of the models that we create in our internal landscape (the brain and thoughts) and with the behavior patterns through language and physical action.  Through understanding what presumptions, or beliefs, we act from on daily basis and the consequences of those presumptions we can have a true understanding of how to uproot and change patterns of behavior that are holding us back from living our true potential.

Currently at KaiZen, Dr. Peter Smith, is conducting a weight loss program that utilizes NLP to obtain great results. By using NLP, Dr. Peter’s program ensures that the new patterns of health he aids clients attain can last a lifetime.  In addition to NLP, the program also combines weekly Tele-seminar sessions, email support, supplementation, eating and exercise program, and inspiring progress tracking system. Contact KaiZen today for more info

NLP is an art that can be utilized to not only help individuals lose weight, but it is a science that has also been shown to assist individuals to quit smoking, remove procrastination, eat better, and create healthier overall patterns in their life.  For more information on NLP and how it can help you talk to Dr. Peter or Dr. Steve on your next visit, both are well versed in using this powerful tool to help KaiZen’s clients towards reaching their optimal wellness and fitness goals.

Kai-Zen Wellness Experiment of the Day:

Take Note of what stimulates your behavior.

By understanding what is the underlying cause or stimulation that perpetuates a particular pattern we can allow our selves to have more choice over what patterns will ultimate reign our life and what patterns it might do us best part ways with. Ask yourself what behaviors absolutely invigorate your life and what patterns leave room for improvement or just completely hold you back from attaining your goals. Now contemplate those patterns. What motivates you to repeat that behavior. What feelings are associated with that behavior. Continued this line of questioning, investigating, the stimuli, the preassumptions, and repercussions, the benefits. Then ask yourself what you want more of and what you want to let go of. This is a great start and a great way to plant seeds of change.

Create a New Good Habit- Now is the Time.

February 22nd, 2010

Today’s KaiZen Prescription for Wellness:

Start Today. Pick a Health Goal and Go for it!

Each and Everyday we have a chance to start fresh.  Today is a new day with no mistakes yet made. Each moment is also new with no mistakes yet made, and it’s up to you what you do with those moments as they come.  You can use each moment to turn to good habits or to bad habits, it’s up to you. Using the KaiZen Approach of continuous improvement in each moment allows us to start fresh and keep going towards our goals.  Maybe you were a little off this morning and didn’t get your work out in- and the rest of your day is jam packed with commitments. How about parking the car a few blocks from your meeting and getting 2 brisks walk in. Do the same when you go to the grocery store and again work out your legs and your arms (on your way back).  Didn’t eat optimally yesterday, tell yourself that you will do better today, and start now with a healthy snack.  The key is not to get down on yourself, accept that you are human and you may make mistakes. That’s how we learn! Each moment you have a chance to put into action what you may have learned from past mistakes. That’s KaiZen, continuous improvement!  If you take this approach, you can take your goals to warp speed and not get in a “super stressed out!” state of mind.  No one is perfect or knows everything at birth, Life is a continuous process of development. Not everyone puts their mindset on continuous improvement but you can!  You can start right now. What can you this afternoon that is just slightly healthier than what you did yesterday? What can you do tonight that might just help your tomorrow out just a little more than usual. Ask yourself these questions and viola! improvement naturally occurs!

KaiZen’s Wellness Experiment of the Day:

Pick one habit you want to change and make a plan to start it now.

To help you stick to it:

1. Write it down. Writing your goal down helps you gain clarity.

2. Enlist a friend to meet the same/similar goal.

3. Ask for Help from a professional- At KaiZen, we are here to help with nutritional, wellness and lifestyle coaching, in general helping to get all your systems back in alignment.

4. Let others know about what your doing. By saying it out loud and stating your goal to the world-can help you “stick to your word”. KaiZen in on Facebook-Post it on the Page and let others be inspired by you. Post it in our Health Goals Discussion page. Alignment it’s not just good for your Back

February 15th, 2010

Today’s Kai-Zen Prescription for Wellness:

Choose to align yourself with your potential.

Remember what you experience is up to You!

Everything your body and mind experiences is a choice.  Each day we make choices about how we treat our body. Daily we make choices about what we eat, drink, how much we exercise or move our body, and what stresses we choose to experience on a physical and mental level. The more positive and consistent your choices are on a consistent day to day, week to week basis, the more positive you will feel in your body, mind, and relationships.

Clients come into KaiZen so that we can ensure that their spine is in the best alignment possible to help their nervous system function optimally.  Remembering that by bringing awareness to what else you expose your body, mind, and spirit too can also aid you in bringing your body, mind, and spirit into alignment with not only your health goals but the rest of your life goals and choosing actions in alignment with your goals consistently practically ensures success! This is what the concept of Kaizen is all about and its what we are all about at Kai-Zen, a Creating Wellness Center where we offer our support in helping you to reach your goals, health and otherwise.

KaiZen Wellness Experiment of the Day:

Bring Mindfulness into Your Choices.

For a whole day, observe what choices you make with your food choices, your environment, your thoughts, your body. Take note of any areas of your life that may not be in the best alignment with goals you want for your life. Then note what choices you can start making tomorrow to begin to make shifts in your life towards living the kind of existence that IS in best alignment with what you want out of life. Remember, the state of KaiZen, slowly but surely with consistency you can accomplish all you desire. x

Be Kind and Watch Your Health Shine!

February 2nd, 2010

AmEmbrace ColorToday’s Kai-Zen Prescription for Wellness:

Practice Random Acts of Kindness as often as possible.

Dr. Wayne Dyer, an inspirational speaker and well-known expert of the mind-body connection, states that being kind naturally boosts your immune system. Research has shown that acts of kindness raise serotonin levels not only in a person whom is acting kindly, but also the person receiving the kind behavior and even others who observe the kind interaction.  Serotonin is a brain chemical that has been found to illicit an immune response, alleviate such things as depression, headaches, and anxiety, as well as, provide feelings of bliss, peace, and calmness.

So be kind, every chance you get, and know that not only will your heart be filled with more joy and less stress but your immune system will be full of more vigor as well. Exponentially we could seemingly reduce disease levels all over the world if we all kept spreading kindness from one to another, since recipients and observers of kind behavior reap immune boosting benefits as well.

Isn’t it fantastic!? In addition to receiving superb chiropractic adjustments from the great chiropractic doctors at Kaizen, now you know you can boosts your immune system at any other moment you choose just by being nice. You can even boost your immune system while you are waiting to receive a chiropractic adjustment just by being kind to the person next you doing their wellness fitness exercises. Wow! Pretty great, huh?

Today’s KaiZen Wellness experiment: For an entire day to up to a week, do your best to practice as many random acts of kindness as possible.  Every chance you get be kind to yourself and others.  Observe how your body, mind, and spirit feel and at the end of the day report back your findings and let us know how it goes (You can do this easily by leaving us a comment on this blog).

Today’s Kai-Zen Prescription for Wellness:

Embrace each moment as another chance to improve your health and vitality!

The word Kaizen means continuous improvement.  We made this concept the name of our Creating Wellness Center in Paradise Valley for it encompasses a powerful message the Kaizen team holds dear: embracing the potential of moving towards our goals on a continuous basis; day by day, minute by minute, slow and steady wins the race. It’s not about quick fast intense changes, for it has been shown that these types of changes over time may not last. Instead, a state of Kaizen is about making strides towards greatness a journey of steadiness and consistency. One can’t just build a strong wellness foundation and then never think or act towards it again.  Every moment of our waking day we have the opportunity to make the choices that direct the course of our life. Why is optimal health important? By getting all your systems functioning at their highest levels this naturally leads you to be able to function at your highest potential in all areas of your life. What does that spell out in a simpler term? Success.T

Obesity Rates Continue to Rise.

August 31st, 2009

2008 Obesity Percentage Rates

During the past 20 years there has been a dramatic increase in obesity in the United States. In 2008, only one state (Colorado) had a prevalence of obesity less than 20%. Thirty-two states had a prevalence equal to or greater than 25%; six of these states (Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia ) had a prevalence of obesity equal to or greater than 30%. American society has become ‘obesogenic,’ characterized by environments that promote increased food intake, non-healthy foods, and physical inactivity. In Arizona, 1 in 4 is obese. Being overweight can become a matter of live and death. People who are overweight and obese are more likely to develop a number of potentially serious health problems. Also, the overall risk of death increases with obesity. If your holding some extra pounds Kai-Zen is here to help. We offer services that include nutritional coaching, diet and exercise programs, Detox and clensing products and programs as well and supplements and vitamins. Is sickness imbedded in your genetic code?

August 11th, 2009

CodeWe had a patient come in the other day and give the familiar statement “It’s in my Genes” I really do love this one. Dad, Grandpa, Mom, Sister, Cousin had “it” so it was only a matter of time before I got “it.” Funny thing is that people actually buy into this frame of thought. They accept dis-ease as some kind of fate or divine will. I was meant to have “it.” What’s your “it?”Is it obesity, heart disease, cancer, high cholesterol, high blood pressure? Depending on which study or report you read genetics or “genes” play anywhere from as little as 3 to 30% in your health. So if your health is defined by only 1/3 genetics what else plays a role in your health? The answer is Your Environment and Nutrition. The surroundings that you put your body in or around play a huge role in your health as well as the food you put into your body. Let’s follow John, a typical American during a typical American workday. He wakes up for work before the sun, most likely stiff from his night of sleep. He sleeps on the wrong bed and wrong pillow. It’s either too firm or too soft for his body type. He grabs his coffee and donut and heads out into his hour long commute. Sitting for many hours each day with poor posture while driving. A very stressful endeavor. With any luck he makes it to work where he sits again for hours upon hours with most likely poor posture once again. His computer screen is too low, his chair height is too high, or worse he works on his laptop using the built in touch pad. At lunch time John steps out to grab some fast food or even faster food from the vending machine. Nutritious and Delicisious! The work day ends he heads back into traffic. Exhausted he skips the gym and heads to the couch. Finally relaxation! Big comfy couch, horrible posture for hours of mind numbing television. If John does extract himself from the couch for dinner I highly doubt a well balanced meal is on his agenda.

Do you know somebody like John? Maybe your life is just like John’s. If John keeps up with this behavior he is essentially killing himself slowly. Poor diet, stressful environments, lack of exercise, bad posture all add up and wreck havoc on John’s body. So whatever John was pre-disposed to from his genes are allowed to manifest. If he did have a probability of heart disease his lifestyle made sure of it!

Is the food you eat leaving you deficient?

July 28th, 2009

Corn Image

It’s no secret that the food we eat is not what it used to be. In fact the soil we grow the food is not what it used to be. You should be able to get all your nutrients from your diet however nutrient deficient soils produce nutrient deficient foods. Through the use of hormones, fertilizers, herbicides and genetically modified seeds we can make the food last longer, grow bigger and even look more appetizing. We then consume these nutrient deficient foods and we ourselves become deficient. The only way to compensate for this deficiency is to change our diet and eat more nutrient dense food or supplement with vitamins. With the landscape of food in America we recommend EVERYONE take a highly potent and absorb-able Multi-Vitamin. Keywords: Potent and absorb-able. For those of you taking vitamins from Costco or your discount retailer these fail miserably. You need a Multi-Vitamin to bring your body back into balance from the nutrient deficient foods you have been consuming. Environmental toxins and pollutants also add to the stress placed upon our bodies so a multi-vitamin becomes even more essential. You should never neglect the importance of diet. When possible you should eat as close to the Earth as possible. Today’s environment does not always allow us to do this and ensure a high quality nutrient dense diet. Hence adding vitamins. Different vitamins play different roles in our body. Some even act in groups. So being deficient in one can wreck havoc on your whole body. Multi-Vitamins should be part of everyone’s dietary regime!
