New Patient Care: What To Expect
Phase 1: Relief Care
Many people come to see a chiropractor because they feel pain. This is the first phase of care where the main objective is the reduce symptoms. Most people falsely believe that if they are not in any pain that they do not have anything wrong with them and are perfectly healthy. Unfortunately, pain is not an accurate indicator of health. And in fact, by the time pain & other symptoms show up, the disease is usually progressed & more advanced. A great example is tooth decay. You may not notice anything initially, but by the time you begin to feel pain, the problem is already serious. I assure you, the decay was a longer process and not a mere result of the sandwich you just bit into. How about concerns like diabetes, cancer or heart disease? You will notice that pain is typically the last thing to appear. Once you begin chiropractic care you will notice that pain is the first symptom to leave although many of the underlying causes still remain.
Phase 2: Corrective Care
Most Chiropractors will agree that eliminating the symptoms are the easier part of a patients treatment. A chiropractor cannot simple focus on reducing pain & ending with that. The cause of these symptoms is what creates reoccurring conditions. In order to not have these symptoms reoccur, it is necessary to continue care even when your symptoms disappear. During your corrective phase of care, it won’t be necessary to get adjustments as often as in the first phase of care. We may incorporate exercises & stretches to help accelerate your healing. Do not be discouraged if you have mild flare-ups in your symptoms on occasion. This is normal. Flare-ups are bound to occur during this phase because your body has not fully healed. Your corrective phase will depend on the severity of your injury or condition and how long you have been suffering from it.
Phase 3: Wellness Care
Maintenance is Key to Healthy Living. Once your body has fully healed, routine chiropractic care can help ensure that your physical problems do not return, and keep your body in optimal condition. Just like continuing an exercise program and eating well in order to sustain the benefits of exercise and proper diet, it is necessary to continue chiropractic care to ensure the health of your musculoskeletal system.
When you make routine chiropractic care a part of your lifestyle, you avoid many of the aches and pains that so many people suffer through, your joints will last longer and you will be able to engage in more of the activities you love.
